Bracken Ridge State High School is seeking a dynamic Community Education Counsellor (Identified), for a temporary part-time position (0.50 FTE or 36 hours per fortnight) until 11 December 2026, unless otherwise determined.

As a Community Education Counsellor at Bracken Ridge State High School, you will play a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to engage, succeed and thrive in their education. '

Working closely with students, families, school staff and community, you'll help create a culturally safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Step Into Your Next Chapter:

  • Provide counselling and targeted support services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to enhance their educational engagement and wellbeing.
  • Develop and implement programs and activities, both within and outside school, that encourage participation in education among students and their families.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships between schools, families, and external organisations to support student development and access to services.
  • Offer cultural guidance and share knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, ensuring cultural awareness and understanding within the school community.
  • Advise school staff and leaders on cultural protocols and effectively manage funded programs to support student outcomes and community engagement.
  • Participate in activities to develop productive partnerships between members of the school community.

What You Will Bring:

  • A strong connection to and understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultures, communities and perspectives
  • Experience working with young people, families or communities in education, youth or community settings
  • The ability to build trust and develop meaningful relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to advocate for student needs
  • A genuine commitment to improving educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students

It would be great if you also have:

  • Qualifications or training in counselling, youth work, community services or a related field
  • Experience working in a school or education environment
  • Experience delivering programs, workshops or cultural awareness training
  • Knowledge of local community services and support networks
