Community Education Counsellor (Identified) - Lee Street State Special School

Lee Street State Special School is looking for a dedicated and culturally strong Community Education Counsellor (Identified) to join our team. This is an opportunity to make a real difference by building positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community, while helping young people feel connected, supported, and successful in their educational journey.
In this role, you will work alongside students and families to provide guidance, advocacy, and support. You will help strengthen connections between home, school, and community, promote cultural understanding across the school, and create opportunities that encourage engagement, participation, and achievement.
This position is being offered in a Temporary Part-Time capacity (0.40FTE), 29 hours per fortnight.

About our School:
Lee Street State Special School is a future-focussed learning community, committed to advancing the individual potential of each child in an innovative, supportive and collaborative learning environment. The school is located in Caboolture in the Moreton Bay region. Opened in 2020, the brand new facilities provide rich learning environments for students across all learning areas, with facilities for the Arts, STEM, Hospitality, Sensory spaces and a hall containing dance studios, music therapy room, performing arts stage and indoor sports stadium incorporated into the 2-year Master Plan. Our goal is to instil in all young people a curiosity and love for learning, and to foster the individual talents of each student to allow them to reach their full potential. About the Role:
- Provide educational counselling and support services within schools to ensure that the best possible assistance services are available to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children, students, families and communities.
- Provide cross cultural awareness training to the broader school community.
We are seeking someone who:
- Has a strong connection to and understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities.
- Builds trusting and respectful relationships with young people and families.
- Is passionate about supporting student wellbeing, engagement, and educational success.
- Can work collaboratively with staff, community organisations, and support services.
- Enjoys sharing cultural knowledge and fostering understanding within a school environment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide educational counselling and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families.
- Develop and deliver programs that encourage student engagement, participation, and success in education.
- Build strong partnerships between students, families, schools, community organisations, and support services.
- Promote understanding and awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, perspectives, and protocols within the school community.
- Provide cultural advice and guidance to school staff to support inclusive and culturally responsive practices.
- Support student wellbeing and educational outcomes through collaboration, advocacy, and community engagement.
