About the Role:

As a Science Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality science education. You will work closely with teachers and students to ensure the smooth operation of practical science activities, maintain laboratory equipment, and uphold safety standards.

In addition to laboratory-based responsibilities, this role includes:

• Supporting activities in the swimming pool, including snorkelling, swimming, and life jacket activities.
• Supervising and being proficient in the use of boats and canoes during marine science and outdoor education activities.
• Towing trailers to transport equipment and resources for off-site activities.

Responsibilities Include:

• Prepare, maintain, and manage laboratory equipment, materials, and resources to support science lessons.
• Assist teachers with the preparation and delivery of practical science activities.
• Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety standards, including the safe storage and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
• Maintain accurate records, including stock levels, equipment maintenance, and chemical registers (e.g., Chemwatch).
• Provide technical advice and support to staff and students during practical lessons.
• Assist in the development and implementation of risk assessments for practical activities.
• Complete Curriculum Activity Risk Assessments (CARAs) in OneSchool to ensure all activities are conducted safely and in compliance with departmental guidelines.
• Support water-based activities, including snorkelling, swimming, and life jacket use, ensuring student safety and engagement.
• Operate and supervise the use of boats and canoes during relevant activities.
• Tow trailers for transporting equipment and resources to off-site locations.

Key Requirements:

It would be highly desirable to have the folllowing skills or experience:

• Understand and apply laboratory practices and safety procedures using the departments chemical management procedure.
• Use Chemwatch for chemical management and safety.
• Hold a boat licence and snorkelling qualifications to support marine science activities.
• Hold a Medium Rigid (MR) licence to assist with the transportation of equipment and resources.
• Tow trailers safely and effectively.
• Demonstrate strong swimming skills and confidence in supervising water-based activities.
• Organise and manage time effectively to meet the needs of the science department.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with staff and students.

 Desirable Attributes:

• Previous experience in a similar role within a school or educational setting.
• A passion for science education and a commitment to fostering student engagement in STEM subjects.

Progressional roles show a salary range spanning two classifications. Appointment will be made at the level appropriate to skill and fulfilment of required criteria.
