Peer Worker (Identified - Lived/Living Experience)

Metro South Addiction and Mental Health Services are looking for Peer Worker to join their team. Peer Workers provide personalised peer support and practical assistance to individuals, fostering hope and the belief that recovery is possible. Drawing upon personal lived experience with mental health challenges, substance use, or suicidality, this role involves sharing one's recovery journey and experience of accessing services, modelling effective strategies, providing formal peer support to individuals to develop individualised recovery strategies, life skills and knowledge to build resilience for mental and physical healthcare needs.

About the Role
- Serve as a positive role model to consumers and support them to identify their own achievable and meaningful recovery goals.
- Provide direct peer support to consumers by engaging in individual and group peer support to make positive changes towards recovery by identifying strengths and goals and participating in planning to achieve these, i.e. recovery plans.
- Be an effective and collaborative member of the CCU multidisciplinary team and work within professional boundaries in accordance with Queensland Health Lived Experience (Peer) Workforce Framework, to provide safe and quality practices as part of an integrated model of care.
- Positively promote and demonstrate individual recovery, sharing personal lived/living experience (when appropriate) of managing mental health issues and/or substance use challenges.
This is an identified vacancy with a genuine occupational requirement for the position to be filled by a candidate who has personal lived / living experience of mental health and / or substance use issues and recovery. Candidates not meeting this criteria will not be considered.
