Various Social Work Departments in Metro South Allied Health are looking for a Health Practitioner (Social Work) Trainee to join their team. The purpose of this role is to support Allied Health clinicians within the Metro South Health (MSH) Pathways Team working with complex, long stay patients across MSH facilities.

About the Role

The social work student will perform a range of clinical support activities and on the job skills development while engaged in formal full-time or part-time tertiary studies necessary to acquire the relevant entry level qualification (mandatory) for employment as a Health Practitioner in Queensland.

The social work student performs a range of clinical support activities and on the job skills development while engaged in formal full-time or part-time tertiary studies necessary to acquire the relevant entry level qualification (mandatory) for employment as a Health Practitioner in Queensland.

Social work students are employed casually to accommodate the commitments required by their studies while gaining employment exposure to the workplace. The student contributes to social work service delivery model in the provision of effective patient care within Metro South Hospital and Health Service, working under the guidance and practice supervision of an allied health professional.

• Initiate changes to treatment programs under the supervision of the Allied Health professional using results from standardised assessments, decision support tools, clinical pathways and/or consumer guidelines.
• Provide education to consumers and their families on a defined range of topics.
• Communicate effectively with all members of the interprofessional team using negotiation and conflict resolution as required. Use effective communication skills to contribute to consumer care and progress, including relevant clinical documentation.
