Safety Ambassador - Mental Health Inpatient

Metro South Addiction and Mental Health Services are looking for several Safety Ambassadors to join their team. MSAMHS has three inpatient units located at the Princess Alexandra, Logan and Redland hospitals. These units deliver care to consumers experiencing acute mental health symptoms, care is delivered by multidisciplinary teams inclusive of medical, nursing, peer workers and allied health staff. The purpose of this role is to provide a collaborative, non-clinical response to occupational violence within the Acute Mental Health Inpatient Units across Metro South Addiction and Mental Health Services.

About the Role
- Continually monitors and actively patrols clinical areas whilst pro‐actively engaging with patients, visitors and staff to develop a positive safety culture.
- Uses supportive verbal techniques and engages staff resources to identify appropriate strategies aimed at the de‐escalation of potentially inappropriate, aggressive or violent behaviour.
- Assistance with the application of physical restraints as imminently required (including legislation requirements) in line with security policy and procedures.
- Makes observations relating to obvious changes to the apparent health of patients and/or visitors (i.e., loss of consciousness, dizziness, obvious laboured or difficult breathing, unresponsiveness, etc.) in the area and immediately identifies any concerns to clinical staff.
