About your role
As the Director of Surgical Services, you will provide strategic leadership and clinical governance to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical services within QEII Jubilee Hospital. Working in close partnership with the Nursing Director - Surgical and Clinical Directors, you will foster collaboration, innovation, and service excellence across surgical specialties.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic leadership, governance, and direction for the Division of Surgical Services
- Managing and supporting medical staff across multiple disciplines
- Driving surgical service planning, development, and quality improvement initiatives
- Ensuring effective workforce, budget, and resource management within the Division
- Promoting a culture of research, education, and continuous improvement
- Delivering safe, high-quality patient care through best practice models
About you
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced senior medical leader who can inspire teams, build partnerships, and ensure excellence in patient care. You will bring a strong record of leadership in surgical or acute care environments and the ability to balance clinical and strategic responsibilities.
You will have:
- Specialist medical qualifications and current AHPRA registration in a relevant surgical discipline (e.g. General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, Gynaecology, Anaesthetics, Intensive Care)
- Proven experience in senior leadership and management in a hospital environment
- Demonstrated expertise in clinical governance, quality, and safety frameworks
- Strong financial and workforce management skills
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement abilities
- Commitment to education, research, and continuous professional development

The Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital (QEII) is a medium metropolitan adult facility providing a range of inpatient and outpatient services including a 24-hour Emergency Department. We provide a range of services, including surgery, cardiology, endoscopy, orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology, geriatric, respiratory and emergency medicine.
We're making our hospital bigger and better to make it easier for our growing community to get the health care they need. We'll have more beds, medical wards and expanded intensive care and emergency services planned to be opened by 2027.
