We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Schools Officer, Grounds and Facilities to join our team in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming school environment. Working alongside our current Schools Officer, you will support the upkeep of the school grounds and assist with basic maintenance tasks to ensure safety and presentation standards are met. This role requires a good level of physical fitness and practical skills suited to outdoor and manual work. You must be able to plan and carry out tasks independently, follow directions when required, and communicate respectfully with staff and students. A friendly and respectful approach to engaging with students with disabilities is essential. Join a team that values care, inclusion, and pride in our school environment.

This role is offered on a temporary full-time basis, until 12 December 2025, unless otherwise determined.

As a Schools Officer, you'll be supported to plan your work with autonomy while also working in partnership with another Schools Officer and liaising with leadership as needed. Your contribution will be genuinely valued and visible every day.

About the Role

This is a OO2 progression position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the OO2 classification with eligibility for progression to the OO3 level once specific criteria have been met. Please note salary rate shown is reflective of OO2 to OO3 classification range.  

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the upkeep and maintenance of school grounds to ensure a safe, clean, and presentable environment for students and staff.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as minor repairs, rubbish removal, gardening, pressure cleaning, and basic painting.
  • Operate and maintain grounds equipment (e.g., mowers, blowers, whipper snippers) safely and efficiently.
  • Work collaboratively with the current Schools Officer to plan and prioritise tasks across the week.
  • Follow safety procedures and report hazards or maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Interact respectfully and safely with students with disabilities in shared spaces.
  • Assist with minor logistical tasks such as moving furniture or setting up outdoor areas for school events when required.

About You

Our ideal applicant will have the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in groundskeeping, gardening, or maintenance work.
  • A level of physical fitness appropriate to a physically demanding role.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and the ability to follow workplace health and safety procedures.
  • A respectful and inclusive approach when engaging with students with disabilities.
  • A current Blue Card (or ability to obtain one prior to commencement).

Nice-to-Have Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience working in a school, early childhood, or special education setting.
  • Familiarity with basic building maintenance tasks or trade-related skills.
  • Experience in using and maintaining grounds equipment.
  • Basic IT literacy to complete online compliance modules and safety checks.
