Laidley State High School is seeking a qualified and dedicated Social Worker to provide support to students, parents, carers, and the broader school community.

This full-time position is set to commence as soon as possible for a duration of twelve months, unless otherwise determined.

Our Social Worker will work as a member of the School Wellbeing Team and deliver services from the school’s new Wellbeing Hub—a central space where students and families access wellbeing, mental health, and educational support services.

About the Role

This is a PO2 progression position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the PO2 classification with eligibility for progression to the PO3 once specific criteria have been met or demonstrated. Please note salary rate shown is reflective of PO2 to PO3 classification range.  

The Social Worker will work directly with children to develop their social and emotional skills but will also need to be flexible in their approach to provide support for children who need it urgently if this occurs. Being able to successfully prioritise the aspects of this work will be a clear advantage. This role also includes supporting the families of students in broad and diverse ways, including enabling families to support the emotional growth of the child and connecting the with external agencies as appropriate.
This social work position is part of the Department of Education's commitment to the Wellbeing Workforce which provides evidence based therapeutic intervention to students and their families. The position focuses on providing targeted mental health interventions and enhanced wellbeing supports to students and their families with mild to moderate mental health concerns.

Your Opportunity
Social Workers role and responsibilities include:

  • Undertake individual and group counselling and therapeutic interventions with students, parents and families to assist them in the mild to moderate mental health needs.
  • Providing comprehensive support to families, to improve the wellbeing of students.
  • Applying understanding of the mental health continuum to identify when students require additional mental health support outside of the school context
  • Understanding of the mental health system to provide students who need additional support for their mental health concerns with warm referrals to external agencies.
  • Develop and/or maintain appropriate data collection and confidential record keeping and reporting systems for individual students referred for social work services in line with department procedures and policies.
  • Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team within an educational setting, providing support to school, community and inter agency networks relevant to the position's role.
