Western Suburbs State Special School is seeking a dynamic Head of Department - Vocational Education and Training to lead the Special Education Training Alliance (SETA), a Registered Training Organisation based at the school that coordinates VET programs across more than 20 Special Schools in Queensland.
The ideal candidate will
demonstrate strong teaching and curriculum leadership, excellent interpersonal skills to build productive partnerships, and the ability to lead and manage change within the school and SETA community.
Regular travel across the state is required to support and collaborate with partner Special Schools delivering SETA programs.

About the School
Western Suburbs State Special School provides an educational environment that supports students in developing the skills and confidence to engage positively in the community. The school believes all students can learn and should have access to meaningful, engaging experiences that support positive post-school pathways. It caters to students aged five to seventeen with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, or multiple impairments, with the option of an additional year of learning. Senior School subjects focus on building functional skills for community participation and potential supported or open employment.
Your Opportunity
As the Head of Department - Vocational Education and Training, you will:
- Lead curriculum focus in line with school and departmental initiatives
- Participate in delivering the vision of Early Childhood and State Schools Division
- Develop the quality of teaching and learning
- Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers and stakeholders.
The Head of Department is accountable to and under the direction of the Principal or delegate.
Your Responsibilities
As the Head of Department - Vocational Education and Training, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- You will have demonstrated the ability to write course materials, along with strong interpersonal skills and effective time management.
- You will have a proven ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Lead the school department to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
Highly desirable but not mandatory qualification
Highly desirable, but not mandatory, qualifications include:
- It is highly desirable that you have a TAE40116 qualification.
