An exciting opportunity is available for a Vocational Trainer specialising in Construction and Bricklaying to join our team at the Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre. In this role, you will provide hands-on instruction as part of a vocational education certificate in construction, helping students develop practical skills and industry knowledge. You will also support students in building broader employability skills to prepare them for future career opportunities.

About the School 

The Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre (BYETC) provides tailored educational programs for young people at the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre, with a strong focus on re-engagement and positive learning outcomes. Recognising that many students have experienced disrupted or negative schooling in the past, BYETC works to close individual learning gaps and build confidence through supportive, student-centred teaching. The centre also prioritises vocational education, helping students develop practical skills and earn recognised qualifications that support future pathways beyond detention.

About The Role  

Reporting to the Industrial Technology and Design Head of Department, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, compliant training that supports successful student outcomes. Using a personalised learning approach, you will assist students, maintain accurate records of their progress, and contribute to the school's continuous improvement and strategic goals. Experience in vocational training or apprenticeship development is highly valued. Additionally, you will build strong relationships and networks with employers and other stakeholders to support young people's growth and career pathways.

Your Responsibilities 

As the Vocational Trainer, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Deliver training and support to students to achieve educational outcomes;
  • Ensure all participants are engaged in activities that focus on training, employment or personal development;
  • Report on student progress using Department of Education systems 

Mandatory requirement

Mandatory requirement of this role is:

  • In accordance with the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 a person is prohibited from working in regulated child-related employment unless the person holds a current Working with Children Check clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment.
  • Qualifications to the level, or above, being delivered.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrated extensive relevant industry experience and currency.
