We are seeking an enthusiastic, organised, and reliable Canteen Assistant. Our Hot Food Program plays an important role in supporting student wellbeing by providing nutritious, affordable meals to students each school day. Students can access a fresh, wholesome hot meal for just $2.00, helping to ensure they are well-nourished and ready to learn. The successful candidate will be responsible for ordering ingredients, menu planning, food preparation, and cooking daily meals for approximately 100-150 students while working within a budget. This is a rewarding role that offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people. The program is well established and well supported, with a strong focus on providing fresh, nutritious, and appealing meals to students. This position is being offered in a Temporary Part-Time capacity (0.39FTE), 30 hours per fortnight.

About our School:
Located in the beautiful Brisbane Valley only 30 minutes from Ipswich, Lowood State School is a medium-sized, primary school catering for children from Prep to Year 6. We also support children with disabilities from pre-Prep to Year 6 and provide a structured, weekly playgroup program for children from birth to prep age in conjunction with Anglicare. About the Role:
- Ordering ingredients, menu planning, food preparation, and cooking daily meals for approximately 100-150 students while working within a budget of $2.00 per meal.
- Perform a variety of catering and cleaning activities to ensure the effective operations of the kitchen/canteen.
- Perform duties that adhere to the maintenance of safe and hygienic operations within the kitchen/canteen.
- This position offers the chance to contribute directly to student health, wellbeing, and engagement through the delivery of fresh, wholesome meals in a supportive school environment.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and prepare healthy, cost-effective meals for 100-150 students daily.
- Order and manage food supplies and ingredients.
- Maintain food safety, hygiene, and kitchen standards.
- Monitor budgets and minimise food waste.
- Work collaboratively with school staff to ensure the smooth operation of the program.

Ideal Candidate:
- Experience in food preparation, catering, commercial kitchens, or similar environments.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements.
- Passion for supporting student wellbeing and community engagement.
- Must have Food Safety Certification.
