Gin Gin State High School is seeking a Head of Department - English to join its team. The successful applicant will demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly with staff, students, and parents. They will have extensive knowledge of the English curriculum and the capacity to model effective teaching strategies. While not mandatory, a sound understanding of the Japanese Language curriculum would be an advantage. The role also includes leading the school’s Reading priority, requiring close collaboration with the administration team and external specialists, such as Speech Pathologists, to plan and implement effective literacy strategies.

About the Role  

As the Head of Department - English, you will lead the curriculum focus in alignment with school and departmental initiatives, contribute to delivering the vision of the Early Childhood and State Schools Division, support the development and improvement of teaching and learning quality, and foster positive relationships among students, teachers, and stakeholders. 

Your Responsibilities 

As the Head of Department - English, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:  

  • Effective planning, delivery and assessment of version 9 English curriculum across 7 - 12.
  • Effective planning, delivery and assessment of Japanese Language curriculum from 7 - 10.
  • Leadership and implementation of the whole school reading initiative.
  • Building staff capacity to deliver differentiated curriculum using a range of pedagogical approaches.
  • Managing support/welfare for identified students.
  • Utilising the Student Code of Conduct to manage behaviours of identified students.
