Senior Data Engineer

You will be responsible for supporting the Analytics team in their day-to-day operations of data engineering and data analytics functions., which may consist of - data extraction, data analysis, pipeline construction and data management.
This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in a cloud environment and state of the art data platform.
You will enhance your core data knowledge and software development skills in the areas of data analytics, data modelling, data management as well as artificial Intelligence and machine learning.

Your role will contribute to achieving positive outcomes for the National Injury Insurance Agency, Queensland (NIISQ Agency), Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) and Nominal Defendant (ND) (collectively referred to as the Motor Accident Insurance Schemes Queensland or MAIS-Q).

Your role
- Maintain and optimize data platform for the purposes of data collection, data transformation, data warehouse and data pipeline.
- Manage data security, deploy access control and monitor data flows and data sharing for protected data.
- Ensure data quality and integrity across various data sources.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and robust data pipelines on Azure cloud environment.
- Develop cutting edge GenAI solutions and machine learning workflows to deliver meaningful insights and predictive analytics.
- Contribute to the delivery of scheme reporting and insights including requirements gathering, documentation, data analysis and data visualisation.
- Support the development and implementation of data governance strategies, contributing to data democratization approach within the organisation.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with team members, business areas and key stakeholders.
About you
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate a strong commitment to shared values, and a broad skillset that includes:
- Proficiency in data engineering including pipeline construction, data integration, data warehouse and data management.
- Competence in Generative AI and machine learning on Natural Language Processing and predictive analytics.
- Expertise with SQL, R/Python, or Databricks spark would be highly regarded.
- Experience in delivering analytical reports using visualisation techniques to communicate complex data (e.g. Power BI).
- Qualifications in Statistics, Data Science or another quantitative field are highly regarded.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to work both collaboratively within a team and independently, demonstrating initiative and accountability.
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying up to date with the latest data engineering tools and techniques
