The North Queensland Region is seeking passionate, experienced and dedicated Guidance Officers for two positions. Positions available at Collinsville State School Cluster and Doomadgee State School, and are offered on a temporary full-time basis, until 12 December 2025 unless otherwise
determined.
This exciting opportunity will allow the successful applicants to live and work in beautiful North Queensland whilst providing professional expertise, leadership and support to school communities and networks. Successful applicants will lead the development and
implementation of plans, programs, and procedures to assist students.

Your Role
Guidance officers are specialist teachers who deliver a broad range of services to school community members. They contribute to the development of a comprehensive student support and wellbeing program that is responsive to the needs of the school community.
Guidance officers may work directly with students in addition to working with a student's teachers, school support personnel, family, other specialists or external support providers.
Support offered by guidance officers includes providing advice and counselling on educational, behavioural, vocational, personal, social, family, and mental health and wellbeing issues.
You may be based at various locations within the North Queensland Region.
Responsibilities include:
- Advocate, provide counselling, psychoeducational assessment and individual student support, recommendations and advice to students, teachers and parents concerning educational, behavioural, career development, mental health and family issues.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and facilitate effective working relationships and partnerships with parents, school personnel and external support agencies to provide a comprehensive support, case management and referral service that optimises students' access and engagement in educational programs.
- Assist and respond to complex and challenging circumstances including student protection matters, critical incidents, mental health issues, suicide prevention and postvention support and risk management processes that may involve the development of individualised student plans, including Educational Support Plans.

- high level of teaching ability,
- advanced individual and group counselling skills and
- sophisticated interpersonal and personal abilities.
