Boulia and Dajarra State Schools are seeking applications from a dynamic and experienced instructional leader with strong organisational skills and a deep understanding of the Kindy to Year 6 curriculum.

In this role, you will drive curriculum leadership aligned with the schools' strategic vision and contribute to whole-school planning, with a strong focus on enhancing teaching quality and improving student outcomes.

Please note that this is a shared position across both schools, and regular travel will be required.

This is a temporary full-time position to commence from 14 July 2025 until 26 June 2026 with possible extension.

About the School

Dajarra is located approximately 150 km south of Mount Isa.

Boulia situated an additional 150 km further south.

About the Role

As the Head of Department (Curriculum), your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

1. Curriculum Planning and Development

  • Lead the development, review, and implementation of curriculum plans.
  • Ensure curriculum aligns with Australian Curriculum, school policies, and educational goals.
  • Integrate cross-curricular themes, skills, and competencies (e.g., critical thinking, digital literacy).

2. Instructional Leadership

  • Support and guide teachers in instructional planning and best teaching practices.
  • Promote innovative and evidence-based teaching strategies.
  • Organise internal moderation and standardisation of student assessments.

3. Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Track curriculum delivery and evaluate its effectiveness.
  • Analyse student performance data to inform improvements
  • Conduct regular curriculum audits and evaluations.

4. Professional Development

  • Identify training needs and organise/facilitate professional development activities for teaching staff.  
  • Mentor new teachers in curriculum-related practices and subject expertise.

5. Resource Management

  • Recommend and manage curriculum-related resources (textbooks, software, teaching materials).
  • Ensure resources are updated and aligned with curriculum goals.

6. Policy Implementation and Compliance

  • Ensure departmental practices align with educational policies and regulations.
  • Update staff on curriculum changes mandated by educational authorities.

7. Collaboration and Communication

  • Coordinate with other HOD-C in Western Alliance to promote curriculum coherence across disciplines.
  • Engage stakeholders (parents, students, community) in curriculum-related initiatives.

8. Strategic Planning and Innovation

  • Lead strategic initiatives for curriculum innovation and improvement.
  • Incorporate 21st-century learning and technology integration.
