About the Department:

About the Role:
The focus of the role is to provide support for students with mild to moderate mental health concerns. The Wellbeing professionals employed through the Student Wellbeing Package work as part of schools' established student support teams to enhance wellbeing and mental health support available to students.
The Student Wellbeing Package will ensure every Queensland primary and secondary state school student has access to a wellbeing professional at school. The role will involve travel within the North Queensland region, including Charters Towers, Ingham and Burdekin, with potential for further travel across the region.
Responsibilities Include:
- Accessing client needs, developing care plans, connecting clients with resources and services, advocating for their rights and offering emotional support.
- Provide professional support and information for students, parents, carers and school communities that facilitate partnerships in decision making for enhancement of all students' learning.
- Use evidence-based intervention strategies to support young people experiencing challenges with mental health, and social and emotional wellbeing.
- Provide therapeutic counselling and support through individual or group sessions to address mild to moderate mental health concerns.
- Facilitate referrals to other allied health professionals and services and assist students and families to access this support.
- Support school communities in responding to critical incidents and emergencies as a part of the school response team.
- Develop and/or maintain appropriate data collection and confidential records keeping and reporting systems for individual students referred for Social work services in line with department procedures and policies.
- Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team within an educational setting, providing support to school, community and inter agency/networks relevant to the position.
