Your Opportunity
As the Head of Special Education Services, you will:
- Promote an inclusive culture and practices within the school community to ensure equity and excellence for students with disability.
- Develop and support a high quality of teaching and adjustments for students with disability in accordance to related legislation and policies.
The Head of Special Education reports to the Principal.
Your Responsibilities
As the Head of Special Education Services, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinate the delivery of high-quality advice and support provided by the Special Education Program (SEP).
- Provide guidance and support to SEP and classroom teachers to ensure all students are achieving.
- Share expertise with staff and assist in developing, planning, and implementing effective reasonable adjustments for students with disability.
- Model and teach effective practices to support inclusive education.
- Coordinate and deliver intensive, targeted teaching for students requiring intervention.
- Case manage students requiring extensive or substantial adjustments.
- Assist in leading the Student Support Committee at both Normanton and Karumba State Schools.
- Oversee the referral process and support classroom teachers and staff in accessing departmental and external specialist services, professional development, and support.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with parents, government agencies, and community groups supporting students with disability or complex needs.
- Work within a diverse team across both schools, contributing to a collaborative and supportive school environment.
