As a Student Support Officer, you will support students and their families to address the barriers of school attendance to improve education engagement.

About the Department of Education:

The Student Child and Family Connect team are dedicated to supporting young people and families to maximise learning days and improve longterm educational engagement.

About the Role:

As a Student Support Officer you will work with students, families, schools and the wider community to improve education outcomes for students.

The Student Support Officer role includes:

  • Liaising with school leadership and support teams to identify students who have or are at risk of disengaging from education, working collaboratively to develop an engagement plan.
  • Conducting home visits and working with families to identify the barriers to school attendance and facilitating reengagement.
  • Connecting young people and families to school and/or community based supports where indvidiual needs (including educational, social, emotional or behavioural) are identified.
  • Working within a team based, case management approach as a contact for students, families or community members regarding educational engagement.
  • Develop innovative and effective strategies for building relationships with students, families, community members and stakeholder groups within the community to support school engagement.

We are looking for someone with:

  • The ability to work independently and part of a team, who is a self-starter and demonstrates initiative in their work.
  • Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable children and young people.
  • Strength in building and sustaining positive working relationships with students, parents and community agencies.
  • Demonstrated or transferrable skills necessary to reconnect young people and families with education and support school engagement.
