About the School 

Cleveland Education and Training Centre (CETC) offers a unique and meaningful opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people aged 10 to 18 within the Cleveland Youth Detention Centre in Townsville. Serving a vast region from north of Rockhampton to the Northern Territory border, including island communities, CETC delivers year-round education programs tailored to support and empower students during challenging times. Staff play a vital role in creating a safe, supportive learning environment while working collaboratively within strict safety protocols. 

About the Role  

As the Youth Support Coordinator (Identified), you will provide individual and group support to students to maximise their engagement with education and training, working under the direction of the Head of Department and teachers. You will assist with transporting students to attend classes, requiring a valid open driver's licence. The role involves delivering cultural case management support by developing holistic, integrated plans that aid student transition. Strong organisational and time management skills are essential to effectively coordinate and manage these responsibilities.

Your Responsibilities 

As the Youth Support Coordinator (Identified), your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:  

  • Identify barriers to young people achieving outcomes and referral to appropriate support services.
  • Maintain records of student contact on a daily basis.
  • Support students to achieve satisfactory learning outcomes.
  • Develop and monitor post program support as required to meet program performance criteria.

Mandatory Requirements for and Identified Role:  

It is a genuine occupational requirement for Identified roles that the position be filled by an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person as set out in Section 7 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1991 for the purposes contained in Section 25 of that Act.  

Verification of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Island heritage  

For administrative purposes, in relation to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role, an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a person who identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is either:  

Of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; 

Accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which he or she lives.  

By definition a person who is not an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cannot be employed (on any basis) to perform the duties of an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role.
