William Ross State High School is seeking applications for the position of Head of Department - Student Services to join our team, with six positions currently available. Our work is highly collaborative, focused on improving student outcomes, with students at the centre of everything we do. The role includes, but is not limited to, tracking student attendance, supporting student wellbeing, promoting Positive Behaviour for Learning, and managing key year-level events. There is also an opportunity for the Head of Department position to include a 0.50 fractional teaching load.

About the Role
As the Head of Department, Student Services, you will lead initiatives that support improved educational outcomes for students, while ensuring the vision of the Early Childhood and State Schools Division is reflected in the school's strategic planning. Your role will focus on enhancing the quality of teaching and learning and fostering strong, positive relationships between students, staff, and the wider community.
Your Responsibilities
As the Head of Department - Student Services , your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Identify, analyse and respond to patterns of truancy within the year level
- Implement targeted strategies to support attendance improvement, including proactive communication with students and families
- Engage with relevant stakeholders, including wellbeing staff and external agencies, to support at-risk students and address barriers to attendance
- Work with the Student Support Services Team to support students' mental, emotional, and social health, referring to specialised services as necessary
- Develop a safe and supportive environment that enables all students to thrive academically and personally
- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of year-level events and activities, such as camps, excursions, and enrichment activities
- Ensure events align with the school's educational objectives and support students' holistic development
- Communicate event details and expectations to students, staff, and parents, and ensure adherence to safety and risk management protocols
