Hughenden State High School is seeking an exceptional and dedicated Deputy Principal to join our school’s leadership team and play a pivotal role in driving excellence across all areas of teaching, learning, and student wellbeing. This is a temporary full-time position commencing 22 January 2026 until 26 June 2026, unless otherwise determined. About Us:

Hughenden State School has a total staff of 30 which is comprised of an increasingly stable population of experienced and dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff. Professionalism and commitment to the students and the community are prominent characteristics of the staff at Hughenden. 

Hughenden State School was established in 1880 and is a P-12 campus in the Longreach District. It is situated 380 km west of Townsville and 320 km north of Longreach, where the district office is sited. Hughenden is the main centre of the Flinders Shire which covers an area of 41 632 sq. km. Sheep, cattle and grazing are the main industries in the shire, with Queensland Rail, Shire Council and local businesses the major employers.

Hughenden State School, although only 4 hours from Townsville, is classified as a remote school with a transfer rating of 6. The position comes with a number of financial and housing incentives.

About the Role:

Responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  • Support the Principal in leading the school community to develop and sustain a shared educational vision that promotes high-quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Demonstrate ethical and values-based leadership, upholding integrity, fairness, and socially just practices in every aspect of school life.
  • Lead by example in setting and maintaining high standards of performance for both staff and students, while fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Build strong, collaborative partnerships with parents, community organizations, industry, business, and government agencies to enhance educational opportunities and outcomes.
  • Act strategically and responsibly by managing resources effectively, understanding relevant legislation and policies, and engaging in ongoing professional learning to drive the school's future success.
