We are seeking a passionate and culturally knowledgeable Community Education Counsellor (Identified) to support the educational success, wellbeing, and engagement of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, families, and communities. In this role, you will provide counselling, advocacy, and cultural support, while building strong partnerships between the school, families, and community organisations. This is a rewarding opportunity to help create culturally safe and inclusive learning environments and make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people. This position is being offered in a Temporary Part-Time capacity (0.54TE), 39 hours per fortnight.

About the Role:

  • You will provide in class support and mentor targeted students.  
  • You will monitor student attendance and academic results for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.  
  • The successful applicant will enjoy working with highly aspirational students, committed parent body, diverse cultures in an environment of high expectations and a collegial faculty of expert staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide educational counselling, advocacy, and support to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and families.
  • Develop and deliver programs that promote student engagement, participation, and educational success.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with families, community organisations, and support services.
  • Promote understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultures, perspectives, and protocols within the school community.
  • Provide cultural advice and support to school leaders and staff.
  • Coordinate and utilise school-based programs and resources that support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.
  • Ensure culturally relevant information and resources are accessible across the school community.
  • Strengthen collaboration and positive relationships between students, families, schools, and communities.
