Your Role:

As a Guidance Officer, you will provide professional expertise, leadership, and support to school communities in North Queensland.

This role involves working collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and external agencies to ensure students have access to the support they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

This position may require itinerant travel across a designated circuit of schools or locations.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing counselling, psychoeducational assessments, and individualised support to students, addressing educational, behavioural, mental health, and family issues.
  • Collaborating with parents, school personnel, and external agencies to deliver comprehensive support, case management, and referral services.
  • Conducting assessments to identify learning difficulties, disabilities, or psychological needs and recommending appropriate interventions.
  • Assisting schools in implementing student protection, behaviour support policies, and individualised plans such as Educational Support Plans.
  • Supporting secondary school students with Senior Education and Training (SET) planning, career development, and future pathway counselling.

  • Has strong interpersonal and communication skills to build positive relationships with students, families, and school staff.
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage sensitive and complex student issues within an ethical framework.
  • Is highly organised, with excellent time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Has experience in counselling, education, or student support services.
  • Is committed to fostering inclusive practices and supporting diverse student needs.
