We are seeking an experienced, innovative, and student-centred Head of Special Education Services to lead and coordinate inclusive education practices across our school. This role requires a highly capable leader with expertise in inclusive education, case management, and legislative requirements, who can build staff capability, drive evidence-informed practice, and promote a culture of high expectations, equity, and continuous improvement. This is for a cluster of schools including Hughenden State School, Richmond State School, Julia Creek State School and Cameron Downs State School.

About Us:
Hughenden State School was established in 1880 and is a P-12 campus in the Longreach District. It is situated 380 km west of Townsville and 320 km north of Longreach, where the district office is sited. Hughenden is the main centre of the Flinders Shire which covers an area of 41 632 sq. km. Sheep, cattle and grazing are the main industries in the shire, with Queensland Rail, Shire Council and local businesses the major employers.
Hughenden State School has an enrolment of approximately 101 students made up of both primary and secondary. The school population in recent years has reflected a decline in the shire population with some slight variations due to transient students. There is a sizeable Aboriginal population making up approximately 26% of school population. An Indigenous Education Worker is employed through Closing the Gap and National Partnership funding Investing for Success. Our school has a small number of students with Education Adjustment Profiles however they are generally integrated into mainstream classes with an Individual Education Program
About the Role:
Responsibilities include, but not limited to;
- Lead and manage inclusive education services by coordinating the delivery of high-quality support, advice, and specialised programs that improve educational outcomes for students with disability and diverse learning needs.
- Build staff capability by providing expert advice, coaching, and professional learning to school leaders, teachers, and support staff on inclusive practices, reasonable adjustments, intervention strategies, and access to specialist services.
- Coordinate student support and case management through targeted intervention, comprehensive case management, and effective planning for students requiring substantial or extensive adjustments.
- Drive evidence-informed practice and compliance by implementing and monitoring school-wide systems, including data collection, reporting, and the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD), to support continuous improvement and legislative requirements.
- Foster collaborative partnerships and effective resource management by working closely with families, external agencies, and community organisations while managing human, financial, curriculum, and physical resources to achieve strategic priorities and inclusive education goals.
