The Director, Legal Services is responsible for the effective and efficient management of the General Counsel stream of the Legal Services Team.
The role will be required to establish, maintain, and further develop strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and other key government entities (such as, where necessary, the Queensland Police Service and/or the Crime and Misconduct Commission).

In this role you will:
- Along with the Executive Director, lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Legal Services Division to ensure operational and legislative targets are met, including managing staff workloads, providing formal guidance and supervision, and ensuring staff function in an effective, efficient, and economical manner.
- Along with the Executive Director, lead and manage the unregistered practitioner matters including the preparation of interim and permanent prohibition orders for unregistered practitioners.
- Lead the prosecution of unregistered complaints and other matters that are referred to the Magistrates Court.
- Undertake litigation in immediate action reviews before QCAT including, advising on evidence, holding discussions with legal representatives for practitioners, and preparing matters for hearing.
- Comply with directions, timetables, and orders issued by QCAT or the Court including directions hearings and conferences and ensure lawyers in the General Counsel legal stream do likewise.
- Assist with the review of briefs of evidence submitted by officers and provide technical advice to ensure successful prosecutions of disciplinary referrals.
- Provide high quality and timely legal services on complex matters across a broad range of legal areas affecting or likely to affect the Health Ombudsman and Director of Proceedings. These include statutory interpretation, administrative law, QCAT review jurisdiction, criminal law, evidence, health law, contract law and information privacy and RTI.
