The Manager of Investigations oversees and manages a team comprising Investigation Officers, Senior Investigation Officers, and Principal Investigation Officers.

Their responsibilities include conducting investigations into complaints accepted by the Office of the Health Ombudsman (OHO).

This includes handling complex and prolonged cases related to practitioner conduct, clinical matters, and breaches of the Health Ombudsman Act 2013.

Additionally, the Manager is tasked with referring appropriate matters to external agencies and ensuring ongoing oversight of these referrals.

They also manage requests for assistance or advice from both internal and external stakeholders, including the allocation of investigative resources.

In this role you will:

  • Ensure efficient and effective delivery and coordination of high-quality investigations of complaints, protracted practitioner, complex clinical practitioner matters and offences against the Act in line with organisation policies, procedures, and legislation, including:
    • Prioritisation, oversight and progression of caseloads to achieve strict deadlines in a complex and sensitive environment.
    • Effective personnel management of highly skilled investigation officers and senior investigations officers undertaking complex investigation activities.
    • Provision of operational and strategic advice and supervision to investigations staff.
  • Coordinate the investigations process by providing high-level technical supervision and guidance to the team to ensure ongoing progression of investigations, identifying relevant avenues of inquiry and ensuring information is appropriately documented in accordance with organisational policy.
  • Coordinate the investigations team to meet performance indicators for timelines and quality in line with divisional targets and benchmarks, including accurate data collection for reporting.
  • Coordinate requests for assistance, provide support and or high-level advice to divisions within the organisation with respect to priority assessment of complaints or matters concerning risk to public health and safety ensuring effective use of investigative resources.
