General Medicine Staff Specialist (HITH)

The Department of General and Geriatric Medicine are looking for a Staff Specialist to join their team. This role will lead the Hospital in the Home (HITH) service within PAH, guiding service development and forging strong links across specialties to grow the service and optimise uptake. The HITH lead will liaise with the Department of General Medicine to work towards a sustainable 7 day a week service. This collaboration will be facilitated by the incumbent participating in a component of inpatient care as well as afterhours/on-call support to the Department of General Medicine.

About the Role

Services provided include:

  • Provides specialist services at Metro South Hospital and Health Service
  • Provide medical care, clinical governance, and leadership within the PA Hospital HITH Service, working collaboratively with other Consultants, health professionals and services to support the development and sustainability of the service at Princess Alexandra Hospital
  • Manage & assess newly admitted medical inpatients to facilitate early transfer to HITH
  • Provides inpatient care, including participating in the on-call roster
  • Provides inpatient consultations as requested
  • Provides outpatient consultations
  • Participates in multidisciplinary clinics and meetings
  • Provides education to medical staff and students, allied health, nursing staff and interested community groups
  • Active participation in patient safety, audit, research and service planning activities
  • Adapt to new roles and responsibilities according to the needs of the Department
