Provision of inpatient and outpatient consultative services with an emphasis on patients with liver disease. • Participate in the provision of the clinical hepatology services within the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at registrar/fellow level. • To participate in clinical research projects within the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

About the Role

  • Participate in the provision of the out of hours on call roster for clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology services at a registrar/fellow level. This commitment is generally on a 1 in 5-6 basis.
  • Participate in the training and supervision of registrars, resident medical officers and medical students as set out in the addendum, Registrar's Role as a Clinical Teacher.
  • Comply with and utilise procedures, organisational policies (including manual handling*), regulations and standards, which impact on the position including contemporary human resource management issues of workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination.
  • When the Hepatology Trainee (AT) is on leave, assist in the inpatient care of Hepatology inpatients and provide supervision to the junior medical staff on the ward. If there is an inpatient with acute liver failure, play an active role in their inpatient care. 
  • Preparation and presentation of cases to the Queensland Liver Transplant Committee assessment meetings, a shared responsibility with the Hepatology AT. Regular review of post-liver transplant test results and actioning as clinically indicated.
  • Responsible for all interna Hepatology consults and external hepatology telephone calls and referrals.
  • Regular attendance and active participation at weekly Hepatology outpatient clinics, pre- and post-liver transplant clinics, HCC MDT, endoscopy/colonoscopy lists and departmental education meetings - including Morbidity & Mortality meetings, as outlined on formal timetable.
  • This position will require undertaking overtime and on-call duties in an after-hours Departmental registrar/fellow on call roster. This position may be required to undertake shifts in an extended span of ordinary hours to meet clinical need.
