The Queensland Parliamentary Service (QPS) is an independent agency that provides a range of services and facilities to support the operation of the Queensland Parliament.   The Property and Facility Services is responsible for maintaining and improving the physical environment and support facilities within the Parliamentary Precinct located in inner city Brisbane and the Electorate Offices for 93 State Members of Parliament across Queensland.

ABOUT THE ROLE

A permanent, full-time opportunity is available now for an experienced Gardener to join the Property and Facility Services team at Queensland Parliamentary Service. Reporting to the Head Gardener, the Gardener is responsible for ensuring that the Parliamentary Precinct is maintained at a high level of operational effectiveness and public presentation.

The role covers a wide range of duties including: maintenance of gardens, lawns and grounds, administration, organisation, setting up and dismantling facilities and equipment checks to ensure safe and effective operation and may require heavy lifting at times.

This is a full-time role with hours of work scheduled between 6:00am and 2:30pm Monday to Friday. There is an additional rostered day off (RDO) per month.

ABOUT YOU

  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining grounds and in a medium to large organisation, and knowledge to apply general industry practices.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work as a constructive member of the Property and Facility Services team.
  • Knowledge of plants, gardening tools, machinery, irrigation systems, chemicals, fertilizers, etc.
  • Ability to operate light plant operation equipment such as brush cutters, mowers, edgers, hedge trimmers, etc.
  • Physical stamina to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Trade qualification/s in groundskeeping, horticulture or a related discipline or an equivalent level of professional experience.
