This is a dynamic, high-impact role at the centre of community engagement, events and communications for the Member for Barron River. The Assistant Electorate Officer is responsible for building strong, visible and trusted connections between the Member and the community through high‑quality engagement, communications and well‑run events.
The role ensures the Member maintains a consistent, positive and highly engaged presence across the electorate, while supporting the seamless and professional operation of the office. Working closely with the Electorate Officer and the Member, the role combines hands‑on delivery with strategic thinking and suits someone who thrives in a fast‑paced, community‑focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Community Engagement & Outreach
Deliver community engagement activities, represent the office at events, build stakeholder relationships, conduct outreach (calls, surveys, follow-ups) and identify emerging community issues.
- Event Management
Lead and deliver the full event lifecycle for community and high‑profile events, managing all logistics, ensuring high‑quality delivery, and capturing content to maximise media and digital engagement.
- Schools, Clubs & Community Relationships
Strengthen community relationships, coordinate the Member's participation in local events, and develop new partnership and sponsorship opportunities. Oversee the installation, maintenance and presentation of signage and materials within the community.
- Communications, Media and Digital Engagement
Manage and grow the Member's digital and media presence by creating, scheduling and publishing engaging content (including posts, reels, newsletters, photos and short-form video), drafting media releases and briefing materials, coordinating interviews and local coverage, monitoring engagement, community sentiment and local/state media, and delivering strategic, campaign-style communications through a rolling content and engagement calendar that aligns messaging with community priorities and the Member's objectives.
- Constituent Engagement
Provide professional, empathetic and solutions-focused support to constituents across high‑volume phone, email and in‑person enquiries, maintaining accurate CRM records, tracking issues through to resolution and identifying recurring themes.
- Administration & Office Support
Provide administrative and secretarial support to the Member and Electorate Officer, including diary coordination, correspondence and document preparation, while maintaining accurate records, databases and office systems, supporting reporting, surveys and data collection, ensuring all activities comply with Parliamentary Service policies and guidelines, working closely with the Electorate Officer to align priorities and messaging, managing workflows, timelines and approvals effectively, and contributing to a high‑performing, professional and supportive office culture.

- Proven event management experience (essential).
- Strong community engagement and relationship‑building skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; strong digital/social media skills.
- Highly organised, able to juggle multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Confident, personable and politically aware, with sound judgement and discretion.
- Proactive, solutions‑focused, reliable and comfortable being both strategic and hands‑on.
- Able to meet the physical requirements of setting up and packing down events.
