The Office of the Member for Hinchinbrook is seeking a motivated and professional Assistant Electorate Officer with a strong interest in communications, media and community engagement.
This full-time role is ideal for someone with experience or qualifications in journalism, public relations, communications or media who enjoys working in a fast-paced and community-focused environment.
The successful applicant will play an important role in supporting proactive communication across the Hinchinbrook electorate, assisting with media coordination, digital content, stakeholder engagement and electorate activities.
About the Role
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Assisting with the preparation of media releases, newsletters and community communications
- Supporting proactive communication activities across the electorate
- Coordinating media opportunities and stakeholder communications
- Assisting with content planning and digital communications
- Capturing photos and short-form video content for community and electorate activities
- Undertaking basic video editing and content preparation for online platforms
- Assisting with the preparation of speeches, correspondence and briefing material
- Supporting electorate office operations and administrative tasks as required
- Attending community events, meetings and activities across the electorate
- Building positive relationships with community organisations, stakeholders and local media
About You
The ideal applicant will demonstrate:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience or qualifications in communications, journalism, media, public relations or a related field
- The ability to write clearly and professionally for a range of audiences
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a small team
- Sound judgement, professionalism and discretion
- Confidence using social media and digital communication platforms
- Basic photography, video capture and editing skills
- A willingness to travel throughout the electorate and work flexible hours when required
Previous experience in media, communications, journalism, local government, stakeholder engagement or electorate offices will be highly regarded.
