The Office of Ms Wendy Bourne MP, Member for Ipswich West, is seeking a proactive and highly organised full-time Assistant Electorate Officer to support the Member's parliamentary, electorate and community responsibilities. Working closely with the Electorate Officer and the Member, you will play a key role in communications, administration and constituent engagement within a fast-paced and confidential environment.

Key Objectives

  • Support the Member's parliamentary and electorate duties through effective communication and administration.
  • Deliver high quality media, correspondence and community engagement activities.
  • Provide responsive and professional service to constituents and stakeholders.

Your Role

  • Lead media and communications activities, including coordinating public messaging, media releases and community updates.
  • Conduct research and write speeches, briefing notes and talking points to support the Member's engagements.
  • Produce formal communications including newsletters, correspondence, media releases and digital content.
  • Manage and grow the Member's social media presence, including use of editing tools and platforms such as Canva and Mailchimp.
  • Manage a high volume inbox, triaging correspondence to ensure timely and effective responses.
  • Schedule and maintain the Member's diary, including appointments, meetings and community events.
  • Support the day-to-day administrative operations of the electorate office.
  • Provide confidential secretarial, executive and administrative support to Ms Wendy Bourne MP.
  • Liaise with constituents to provide information, assistance and referrals regarding government services.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community groups, organisations and stakeholders across the Ipswich West electorate.
  • Conduct research and compile background material as required to support parliamentary and electorate activities.
  • Draft, compile and publish newsletters, surveys and other communications for constituents.
  • Occasional travel and out-of-hours work may be required to support the Member at community events.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong research, writing and communication skills, including experience drafting speeches and formal correspondence.
  • Experience producing professional communications such as newsletters, media releases and stakeholder correspondence. 
  • Demonstrated social media experience, including content creation and use of platforms/tools such as Canva and Mailchimp.
  • Excellent organisational, time management and prioritisation skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Sound administrative and secretarial experience, including diary and inbox management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a small team while exercising initiative and flexibility.
  • High levels of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.
