Parliamentary Services is seeking a highly capable, experienced and motivated Parliamentary Policy Officer to support a cross-bench Member in their parliamentary functions. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the centre of Queensland's legislative process, providing strategic advice, policy analysis and high-level support across a broad range of issues.
This is an exciting and fast-paced position where your expertise will contribute to legislative scrutiny, committee work and policy development within a dynamic parliamentary environment.
This role is offered as a contract opportunity, up to 3 years in duration. Part-Time applicants will also be considered.
Key Objectives
- Provide high-quality policy, research and administrative support.
- Deliver strategic analysis of governance and legislative matters.
- Support the Member's parliamentary, committee and legislative functions.
Your Role
- Undertake detailed research and analysis, including scrutiny of legislation and drafting briefing materials.
- Prepare high-quality advice, speeches, submissions, reports, briefing notes and correspondence.
- Coordinate and review parliamentary materials such as policy briefs, Private Members' Bills, motions and committee work.
- Support committee responsibilities by reviewing submissions and providing expert advice.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with parliamentary stakeholders and agencies.
- Provide administrative and strategic support during Parliamentary sittings and committee meetings.
- Advise on Parliamentary procedures, Standing Orders and governance processes.
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in handling sensitive information.
What We're Looking For
- Experience conducting complex research and policy analysis, particularly relating to legislation or government processes.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality documents under tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Highly developed organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Knowledge of parliamentary systems, processes and protocols, or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
- A relevant tertiary qualification is highly desirable.
- Experience in public administration or exposure to parliamentary environments is advantageous.
