The role
This position involves applying advanced histology and cytology techniques to support surgical and autopsy case management, ensuring compliance with professional and ethical standards, including NATA/ISO accreditation. You will handle tasks such as tissue preparation, dissection, special staining, frozen sections, and diagnostic specimen testing, adhering to quality and safety protocols. Active participation in laboratory operations, including rostering, resource management, and quality improvement initiatives, is essential. Strong collaboration and communication skills are required to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders and contribute to a high-performing team.
To excel, you must possess a tertiary qualification in Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) and demonstrate expertise in histology practices, including advanced methods and technologies. You will need to adapt to evolving priorities, maintain diligence and accuracy, and engage in continuous professional development. Availability for rostered shifts, including weekends and evenings, is required to meet service delivery needs.

Pathology Queensland (PQ) provides diagnostic pathology services to all Hospital and Health Services (HHS) across metro, regional and remote Queensland and plays a critical role in the government's response to public health threats, epidemics, and civil emergencies.
PQ offers laboratory services in the disciplines of anatomical pathology, chemical pathology, haematology, immunology, microbiology, and genomics. PQ also provides expert analysis, scientific testing, and advice to maintain and improve our public and environmental health, and to support the coronial system in Queensland.
