The role
As a Molecular Diagnostic Scientist, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality laboratory services in compliance with Queensland Public Service values and health and safety standards. This role involves accountability for each stage of the PCR process, including specimen identification, extraction, instrumentation setup, and reporting. You will ensure compliance with NATA/ISO/TGA/NPAAC standards and utilise the Laboratory Information System for clinical outputs. Your responsibilities include independently developing solutions to laboratory issues during shifts, contributing to quality and service improvement activities, and assisting in the development of scientific practices, protocols, and validation studies under senior staff supervision.
You will participate in a multidisciplinary team to maintain quality standards, provide efficient client services as part of the Duty Officer rotation, and prioritise tasks based on urgency and resource availability. This role also involves providing basic training and support to new staff and students to ensure adherence to procedures and regulations. Your ability to work collaboratively or independently during evening and weekend shifts, along with your expertise in virological and molecular diagnostics, will contribute to a client-focused, high-performing laboratory service.
