MRL Genomics Scientist
Herston and Coopers Plains
Seeking the best suited applicant to join our team of Health Professionals. Perform clinical genomic and molecular testing with minimal supervision to support Pathology Queensland in the investigation of isolates and specimens of clinical and of public health significance. This is an onsite work and does not allow provisions to work from home. QMRL also has a satellite laboratory at Public and Environmental Health Reference Laboratories (PEHRL) based at Coopers Plains. This position is expected to cover for both sites if required.

Apply scientific knowledge and judgement in the analysis of samples and specimens leading to the delivery of state-wide genomic and other molecular testing services for clinical mycobacteriology.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Knowledge and skills in the provision of contemporary microbiological/mycobacterial testing, particularly as this applies to antibiotic resistance. Experience in working with mycobacteria is highly desirable.
- Knowledge and skills in genomic and other molecular testing methods, in particular for application to microbial resistance detection, identification and typing.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills for contributing to laboratory specific documents including research reports, databases, emailing staff and clients and working with LIMS.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to a laboratory service that is compliant with NATA/NPAAC/ISO15189 quality accreditation, standard methods and relevant regulatory guidelines and professional standards.
Qualifications, registrations, and other requirements
- The successful applicant must hold at least a recognised tertiary degree (or equivalent degree qualification) in science (preferably medical laboratory science or equivalent) majoring in Microbiology or Molecular Genomics.
- Experience working in a genomics or molecular microbiology scientific team or demonstrated post-graduate experience in the field of Molecular Microbiology or Bioinformatics is highly desirable.

- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to the commencement of duties.
Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements
- It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
- Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis may also be required for this position.
- Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e., one HHS to another HHS, department to a HHS, or HHS to department).
