About the role
Join the Queensland Public Trustee (QPT) as a Financial Accountant and play a vital role in maintaining financial systems that support transparency, compliance and quality service delivery. Working within the Financial Accounting and Operations unit, you'll contribute to key financial processes including month-end reporting, audit preparation, asset management, and statutory compliance.
Your work will underpin financial decision-making across the organisation and help ensure we meet our obligations under the Financial Accountability Act 2009 and Queensland Treasury standards.
As a Financial Accountant, you will:
• Oversee month-end accounting processes, including general and subsidiary ledger reconciliations
• Prepare and collate financial statements and supporting information for external audits
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, government regulations, and internal controls
• Manage tasks related to GST, losses and special payments, employee entitlements, and asset verification
• Drive process improvements and support the QPT's internal control and assurance frameworks

About you
You're a detail-oriented and solutions-focused professional who enjoys solving problems, meeting deadlines, and contributing to financial excellence in the public sector. You understand the importance of strong internal controls and thrive in an environment where precision and accountability matter.
The following attributes are essential to your success in this role:
• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce or Business
• CPA, CA or CIMA membership (or working towards)
• Experience in financial accounting within a large organisation
• Strong understanding of compliance, audit and statutory reporting requirements
• Excellent time management and reconciliation skills
