Join the Official Solicitor, Corporate Legal Services division at the Queensland Public Trustee (QPT) as a Principal Lawyer within the property law and leasing team and play an integral role in advising the QPT and government clients on property, leasing, and complex commercial matters. About the role

As the Principal Lawyer within the Property Law and Leasing team, you'll be a trusted legal advisor to the Public Trustee, the Official Solicitor Corporate Legal Services, staff and a range of government clients. Working with autonomy and authority, you will:

  • Provide high-level legal advice and services across property, leasing, and commercial law in line with legislation, professional standards, and QPT policies.
  • Act as a first point of contact for clients, ensuring timely and professional representation of the Office.
  • Oversee and mentor other lawyers to support delivery of efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality legal outcomes.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, including contributing to the promotion and marketing of the Office's services to government stakeholders.
  • Ensure accurate records are maintained in compliance with legal, professional, and public sector requirements.

About you

You're a senior lawyer with a proven track record of success in property and commercial law, comfortable managing complex matters with minimal supervision. You'll thrive in an advisory role where your expertise influences decision-making and where client service is paramount.

To succeed, you will bring:

  • Substantial post-admission experience in property, leasing, and commercial law.
  • Strong knowledge of key legislation including the Property Law Act 1974, Land Title Act 1994, Trusts Act 1973, and related Commonwealth Acts.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal matters independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide clear, practical advice.
  • Experience in building trusted relationships with government and external stakeholders.
  • Leadership qualities, including the ability to oversee and mentor other legal professionals.
