The Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) is on a bold journey towards Brisbane 2032 and beyond. Following the extraordinary success of Queensland athletes at the recent Olympic and Paralympic Games, we are now focused on delivering even more medal-winning moments through to Los Angeles 2028 and our home Games in 2032. Our ambitious high-performance strategy for the 2032 Games is to create more medal-winning moments for Queensland athletes that inspire their state and nation. While our strategy guides our performance, our culture truly delivers it. Given our vision, our culture is vitally important to us.

The Data Engineer will contribute to designing, operating, and scaling the QAS Performance Data Platform to support high-performance sport. This role will contribute to the end-to-end data infrastructure, ensuring reliable ingestion, storage, transformation, and access to data across QAS.

Working closely with performance support staff, corporate services, and technology partners, the Data Engineer ensures data systems are robust, secure, and fit for purpose - enabling timely, high-quality insights that directly support athlete development, coaching decisions, and strategic performance outcomes. The role plays a critical part in evolving the platform to meet growing data demands and unlocking a sustainable, data-informed competitive advantage for QAS.

A degree in data, computer science, IT or related field is a mandatory requirement.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide technical advice to QAS leadership, staff, coaches, athletes, and system partners on data architecture, pipelines, and platform capabilities that enable reliable, high-quality decision-making.
  • Contribute to the delivery, operation, and continuous improvement of the QAS Data Platform, translating performance and business needs into scalable data engineering solutions.
  • Support the design, build, and maintenance of robust data pipelines, integrations, and storage layers to support the ingestion and processing of performance, training, and operational data.
  • Support the evaluation and implementation of emerging data engineering, cloud, and AI-enabling technologies, balancing innovation with reliability, security, and cost control.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, observability, and availability across the platform to enable trustworthy downstream analytics, reporting, and modelling.
  • Assist in establishing and enforcing data engineering standards, platform governance, and security controls, embedding best practices in data privacy, access management, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal and external providers to scale platform capability and uplift data maturity within the business.

The QAS is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all athletes, children and young people that are involved in QAS supported sport programs.

We are committed to an environment where athletes from any background are heard, treated fairly and free from abuse.
