The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) is seeking a Principal Engineer (Networks) to join the ICT Infrastructure Unit. The Principal Engineer (Networks) manages the daily operations of the QCAA network infrastructure, cyber security posture, Cloud based services and critical aspects of the data centre compute systems. They evaluate, manage and plan for project work to upgrade, update or replace existing systems and provide relevant monitoring and reporting of all systems to management.

What you will do
In the Principal Engineer (Networks) role, you will:
- Utilise your in-depth experience in data networking design and operation, development of performance monitoring regimes, and problem solving and trouble-shooting expertise in a mixed technology environment including on-premise and cloud based solutions, to ensure the voice and data networks effectively support and enhance the QCAA business operations.
- Plan, design, and manage the WAN, LAN, VOIP, WLAN and Internet infrastructure, firewalls, Cloud services and associated monitoring and information security capabilities of the QCAA Networks to ensure they reflect industry best practice, are fit for purpose, are secure and cost effective.
- Lead the design and development, and subsequent implementation, of the QCAA Cyber security defence suite in accordance with industry best practice such as the Australian Cyber Security Centre Essential Eight program, and ISO27001. These solutions include content delivery networks, distributed denial of service (DDoS) mitigations, firewalls, content filters, intrusion detection and vulnerability management suites, email security solutions and associated protections for QCAA computing devices.
- Coordinate resource allocation and support for external projects, including advising of selection, engagement and procurement activities; project reporting, implementation and handover and delivering .
- Participate in technical research and development to remain up to date on new systems, programs and platforms, enable continuous innovation within the network including access and control, monitoring and analysis, performance tuning, troubleshooting and documentation to maintain network performance to meet user dem.
- Ensure ICT network documentation and support reference materials are prepared, utilised and maintained to support consistent operation, staff cross skilling and return of professional development investment, including network diagrams, work instructions and training materials.
- Collaborate and build strong relationships within the ICT Infrastructure team, other ICT teams and key internal stakeholders and external groups such as government and industry, to ensure that ICT services are progressive, relevant and solutions driven.
- Contribute to a continuous improvement, change management and performance development culture across the unit by participating in regular cross skilling activities, design workshops and two-way feedback discussions with your colleagues and manager of the ICT Infrastructure Unit.
