What you'll do
- Perform specimen processing, microscopy, culture interpretation, identification and sensitivity testing and a range of diagnostic tests within the microbiology and molecular section.
- Participate in quality assurance activities including internal and external quality control programs.
- Maintain accurate records in relation to testing and all other laboratory activities.
- Perform analyser maintenance and troubleshooting and maintain consumable stocks
- Apply scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate to ensure that the microbiology and molecular services meet the requirements of the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (SCHHS), commensurate with level of experience.
- Apply broad level of knowledge, skills, and experience and scientific leadership to microbiology and molecular team, commensurate with level of experience.
About you
We are searching for someone who has:
- At least a tertiary degree (or equivalent) formal qualification(s) in medical laboratory science or equivalent.
- Demonstrated knowledge, expertise, and skill in the delivery of scientific/technical judgement within a microbiology and molecular laboratory.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as a member of a microbiology and molecular team.
- Demonstrated ability to apply established principles to a microbiology and molecular service with provision of results and clinical advice in a client focused manner.
- Demonstrated ability (or ability to rapidly acquire the skill) to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.
