Seeking a highly competent Health Professional to join our team of friendly staff as the Supervising Scientist (Haematology) is to ensure the 24/7 provision of high-quality, cost-effective haematology diagnostic services as well as a urine/fluid microscopy service to the Logan and Beaudesert Hospital Service sites and other clients of Pathology Queensland, and to ensure that all supervised laboratory practices comply with Pathology Queensland policies and ISO15189 requirements.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- High level of experience as a medical laboratory scientist in the consistent and accurate performance of a broad range of complex haematology, coagulation and urine/fluid microscopy investigations
- Advanced multi-modal communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships with colleagues and clients
- Advanced clinical knowledge in Haematology and urine/fluid Microscopy services to support laboratory staff and clients
- Expertise in the operation and supervision of Haematology and urine/fluid Microscopy services in line with the strategic direction of Pathology Queensland
- Ability to supervise and train a team of Health Practitioners in Haematology and urine/fluid Microscopy, complying with the policies of Pathology Queensland and the Department of Health
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot Haematology analysers such as XN3000, ACL Top 300 or similar
- Ability to use or to quickly acquire knowledge of a variety of software systems applicable to supervisory duties including but not limited to a LIS, medical records system, Quality information system, procurement, payroll/HR, safety and Office365
- Commitment to continuing education of yourself and supervised colleagues
- Availability to provide urgent remote or on-site support out of hours when required for emergent issues
- Detailed understanding of laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO15189 certification for Haematology and urine/fluid Microscopy services
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- The successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary degree in Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) from a recognised university or tertiary institution
- Qualifications should include advanced Clinical Haematology components
- Relevant graduate qualifications in management or science would be an advantage
- Membership of a professional scientific association such as AIMS or similar would be an advantage
- The successful applicant will be required to be the after-hours supervisory contact at times
- The successful applicant will be required to act as laboratory manager at times
