Pathology Queensland and looking for a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join their team. As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will have a primary role supporting the Public and Environmental Health Reference Laboratories (PEHRL) unit to deliver an efficient, high-quality service through the performance of a diverse range of quality activities.

What you'll do
- Under the guidance and supervision of the senior scientific team, review quality control results including External Quality Assurance Program (EQAP) results across relevant groups within the laboratory, undertake root cause investigations into QC failures, update QC targets, support assay and analyser verifications and validations including data analysis, completion of relevant statistics and preparation of reports.
- Support the management of equipment including scheduling of calibrations, filing reports and data entry into the Quality Information System (QIS2)
- Maintain competency to perform and validate laboratory investigations consistently and accurately using appropriate resources and applying knowledge and skills as it applied to diagnostic and public health, including for Microbiology, Virology, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry.
- Maintain and apply scientific knowledge and judgement in the analysis and reporting of samples and specimens, through active learning within the team and by engaging in professional development activities of the Department.
- Participate in the identification, development and implementation of quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification to ensure the delivery of high-quality pathology services to improve patient care.
About you
We are searching for someone who has:
- A relevant degree in science or equivalent from a recognised University or other tertiary institution.
- Experience in the performance of diagnostic and public health related testing.
- Theoretical knowledge and understanding of diagnostic and public health principles and procedures.
- Proven ability to solve problems and show initiative in the workplace.
- Well-developed organisational and communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to review and analyse quality controls, including EQAP.
- Demonstrated involvement in process improvement and client liaison activities.
- Experience with, or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of programs such as Excel, , AUSLAB
- Understanding of laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO certification.
- Awareness of the human resource management policies applicable to contemporary workplaces.
