We have an exciting opportunity for the best suited applicant to join our team of Health Professionals. This role will supervise, coordinate and assist in all activities of clinical assistant staff at Pathology Queensland Hervey Bay and Maryborough. To work collaboratively with the Supervising Scientist to maintain and improve the quality and efficiency of the Specimen Collection and Specimen Reception service, ensuring that all practices comply with Pathology Queensland protocols.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

  • Extensive experience in phlebotomy including the application of established policies and guidelines with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of procedures and processes used in specimen reception together with a sound knowledge of laboratory operations in all disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, co-ordinate and train staff to provide an efficient and effective service.
  • Possess a high level of communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work in a team, establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, laboratory, medical and nursing staff at all levels.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and the ability to work un-supervised.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies as they are introduced and or pioneer innovated solutions focused on improving the patient experience.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • Whilst not mandatory, a certificate III or IV in Pathology Collection and/or Pathology would be well regarded.
  • This position may be required to work shifts in Maryborough Hospital.
  • The laboratory delivers a 24-hour, 7-day service. In this workplace, all staff are contracted to work any rostered shift within the 24-hour 7-day roster period, including overtime as required. This facilitates the progressive review of staffing and shift arrangements to accommodate changes in workload and Service requirements.
  • To be eligible for permanent appointment to Pathology Queensland applicants must provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency. To be eligible for temporary appointment applicants must provide proof that they can legally work in Australia.
