Seeking a competent individual to join our hard working team of Health Professionals as a Scientist in Pathology. The position will perform a diverse range of complex and highly specialised diagnostic and therapeutic testing in the Chemical Pathology department. To be successful you will be able to demonstrate independent judgement and responsibility in organising and prioritising workloads.

Are you confident to apply broad scientific knowledge, skills and experience in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate to ensure that the pathology service meets the requirements of the Health Support Queensland. If so then this role could be for you.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Knowledge of Chemical Pathology testing and its role in clinical medicine.
- Knowledge, skills and expertise in analytical methods relevant to the pathology laboratory.
- Proven ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative in problem solving and innovative solutions.
- Proven ability to participate in a team of professional staff to ensure the delivery of a high-quality testing service.
- Good communication and negotiation skills with staff at all levels in a large organisation.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent qualification.
- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/ manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
- Queensland Health staff are required to participate in 24-hour shift, on-call or weekend roster arrangements.
- Applicants will be required to work afternoon, weekend and Public Holiday shifts.
- All newly appointed staff are contracted to work any rostered shift within the 24-hour 7-day roster period, including overtime as required. This facilitates the progressive review of staffing and shift arrangements across the organisation to accommodate changes in workload and service requirements.
- At times this position may also be required to provide relief to the 24 Hour Continuous Shift Team as well as the Innisfail, Atherton and Thursday Island Laboratories, as operationally required.
