The Health Protection & Regulation Branch are looking for a Senior Project Officer, Waste, Communications and Compliance to join their team. In this role you will lead engagement with the statewide Hospital and Health Service (HHS) waste network and operational units to identify, support, implement and communicate sustainable waste reduction, recycling, and circular economy initiatives.

What you'll do

  • Develope and maintain strategic engagement, communication, and collaboration to support integrated approaches to management and procurement.
  • Maintain an overview of statewide waste and recovery data, including progress against specified waste reduction targets.
  • Maintain an overview of statewide compliance with relevant environmental legislation, including supporting compliance planning and reporting.
  • Oversee state-wide compliance reporting across QH for relevant environmental legislation and regulations, including the Environmental Protection Act 1994 and the Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011.
  • Support HHSs and other QH entities to develop and implement compliance plans and robust governance, processes, and systems to effectively manage, monitor and report on non-compliance.
  • Implement or strengthen existing strategic engagement and communication activities and programs to promote and broaden the environmental agenda across Queensland Health and the activities that contribute to this effort. In doing so, the role will develop and maintain a suite of communication tools, materials, and processes in collaboration with key stakeholder groups and across government.

About you

We are searching for someone who:

  • Can provide direction and foster collaboration with HHSs and Queensland Health agencies on the management, coordination and reporting of waste management and avoidance programs to drive an integrated effort in waste management and procurement across the health network. Experience working with waste or resource recovery issues is desirable but not essential.
  • Can implement and strengthen data collection, analysis, monitoring and reporting frameworks and processes to ensure accurate assessment of waste management and reduction efforts against the established benchmarks and targets, including quantifiable benefits and cost savings to the health system.
  • Has demonstrated knowledge of compliance processes, monitoring and reporting and the ability to support HHSs to develop and implement compliance plans, including monitoring and management of non-compliance or breaches.
  • Has The ability to build strong relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders across QH, including HHSs to support better environmental outcomes. This will require development and maintenance of a suite of communication tools, materials, and processes in collaboration with key stakeholders.
