Pathology Queensland are looking for a Technician Anatomical Pathology to join their team at Princess Alexandra Hospital. In this role you will apply an advanced or competent level of technical and scientific knowledge, skills and experience in histology, and engage in independent decision making and judgement on a day-to-day basis with minimal clinical practice supervision.

What you'll do
- Undertake a range of routine and diverse technical tasks in histology and perform these to a high standard with minimal supervision.
- Apply increasing independent judgement commensurate with level of experience in the analysis of technical and scientific issues, and the provision of advice to clients and stakeholders where appropriate.
- Undertake problem resolution and related duties following well established protocols and processes in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards.
- Facilitate the analysis of patient specimens and to provide an effective, efficient, client focused histopathology service, and work in accordance with relevant accredited quality standards and legislative requirements.
About you
We are searching for someone who has:
- At least an Associate Diploma (generally prior to 2000) or a Diploma or Advanced Diploma (or equivalent) qualification (Post 2000) to at least AQF level 5 in an eligible discipline or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution within Australia; or for qualifications obtained outside Australia recognition assessment by AIMS confirming Australian equivalency.
- Demonstrated ability to provide anatomical pathology services specifically in the areas of histology with a focus on microtomy, embedding and performing duties associated with the processing of surgical tissue through the cut-up areas of the histology laboratory.
- Demonstrated technical competence in the use of common computer software packages and knowledge of or ability to acquire knowledge of laboratory information systems.
- Ability to perform routine and more complex technical procedures, as required, with minimal supervision commensurate with level of experience.
- Demonstrated ability to apply competent scientific judgement in the coordination of Anatomical Pathology processes and to follow established standard operating procedures.
- Experience or an understanding of the various facets of immunohistochemical and molecular testing on anatomical pathology specimens would be highly desirable.
- The ability to work harmoniously with others in multidisciplinary teams and actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour.
- Demonstrated a commitment to, and engagement in personal professional development and training activities.
- Experience or an understanding of the various facets of immunohistochemical and molecular testing on anatomical pathology specimens would be highly desirable.
