As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for the collection of high quality and cost-effective specimens to clients of Pathology Queensland. 

What you'll do

  • Collection of appropriate quality blood and non-blood specimens from clients of Pathology Queensland as per documented protocols.
  • Ensure correct patient identification, labelling and collecting techniques are followed according to documented policies and procedures.
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively.
  • Maintain above-average attendance, punctuality, and impeccable behaviour in the workplace.
  • Ability to use computer-based collections systems and electronic medical record systems.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with patients, hospital staff and colleagues to ensure the correct collection of appropriate blood and non-blood specimens from inpatients and outpatients as requested.
  • Perform duties that include the restocking of pathology consumables, maintaining clean work areas and assisting where directed by Phlebotomy Supervisors.

About you

We are searching for someone with:

  • Ability to participate in an established roster covering a range of shifts within the hours of 6:30am to 10:00pm 7 days a week including weekdays, weekends, and public holidays where rostered. The successful applicate will be expected to work a combination of shifts within in each fortnight.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours or extra shifts above the minimum contract hours where necessary to support patient care.
  • Demonstrate experience or ability to acquire experience in the correct procedures of specimen collection including the application of established policies and guidelines with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge of standard precautions in dealing with patients and biological specimens.
