Senior CAT Steward (Investigator)

The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission's (QRIC) Compliance Assurance Team is seeking six Senior Compliance Assurance Team (CAT) Stewards (Investigator) to be based in Brisbane (3 positions), Toowoomba (1 position), Rockhampton (1 position), and Townsville (1 position).

As a Senior CAT Steward (Investigator), you will bring proven investigative expertise, a sound understanding of the Racing Integrity Act 2016 and the Rules of Racing with experience in interpreting and applying them, strong analytical and decision-making skills, and a commitment to ethical conduct.

This role requires the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, lead and execute high-quality investigations, and ensure compliance with animal welfare and racing integrity standards.

What you will bring to the role

Demonstrated experience in conducting investigations, including gathering evidence, preparing reports, and supporting enforcement or disciplinary outcomes, along with the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, regulatory frameworks, and the Rules of Racing.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Well-developed communications and interpersonal skills, enabling you to present information clearly, build professional relationships and influence compliance.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, particularly in research, intelligence, and compliance activities.
  • Strong judgement and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess risk and prioritise competing demands.
  • High levels of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to ethical conduct.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Experience in, or ability to, present evidence in disciplinary or court proceedings.
  • Flexibility to support operational requirements, including race day duties and mentoring of staff.

Mandatory Checks

  • To be appointed to this role, you must be an Australian citizen, have permanent residency status or a visa permitting you to work in Australia. You are required to notify QRIC if your right to work in Australia ceases.
  • Newly appointed public service employees must disclose any employment as a lobbyist in the previous two years within one month of starting.
  • Flexible work arrangements will be considered for the advertised role.
  • A three-month probationary period applies to successful candidates external to the public sector.
  • Will frequently be required to work early mornings.
  • May be required to work on weekends and public holidays and extended hours when reasonably required.
  • Complete a conflict-of-interest form.
  • Subjected to a mandatory gambling restrictions policy which prohibits any gambling on the racing events throughout Australia and internationally and must declare and disclose all gambling accounts.
